The Xbox app is getting boosted content sharing features – Windows Central

One of the things people often complain about with regards to Xbox is its Game DVR recording tools and sharing features. Improvements have gradually been making their way to Xbox consoles, but we’ve gotten a glimpse at some fairly major improvements to the way Xbox clips are shared across Xbox Live.

Recently posted by Microsoft on Twitter, the Xbox app is getting the ability to share direct links to Xbox gameplay clips. As it stands right now, gameplay clips are typically shared directly on Xbox Live, or need to be downloaded and then re-uploaded to social media sites like Instagram and so on. Now, this new link-sharing feature will give each clip a bespoke page for that video, without requiring users to sign in or sign up to Xbox Live.

In addition, Microsoft is also working on what looks like a Tiktok-style feature for sharing trending gameplay clips on the Xbox app. They already have a feature similar to this inside the Xbox app, but it’s restricted to game publisher updates and marketing content right now.

I’m not sure how vertical video is going to work out for 16:9 game footage, or if Microsoft is going to add any Instagram or TikTok-like video editing tools to accommodate the format, I suppose time will tell. Either way, I’ve always felt Microsoft was missing a trick by not doing more with all of the cool gaming clips that people capture on Xbox Live from a social media perspective. Sharing gameplay clips direct to Twitter is a useful feature, but there are many dozens of other potential places where people might want to share a clip without having to ask the received to sign up or log in. This is a great step to improving that flow, with much more likely to come in 2022.
